It is with profound sorrow that we acknowledge the tragic loss of Atetia Bobo, an eighth-grade English Language Arts teacher at Caliber Beta Academy in San Pablo, who was killed in a mass shooting at E-Z’s Lounge in downtown Oakland on Saturday morning, March 7, 2026. Bobo, 33, was one of two individuals who lost their lives in the incident, which also left five others injured. A 25-year-old man died later at a nearby hospital.
Bobo was widely remembered as an “incredible educator” and “even more incredible human being,” according to a spokesperson for Caliber Public Schools. She dedicated herself to supporting students, engaging with families, and collaborating with her colleagues. Her warmth, compassion, and positive presence made a lasting impression on the school community, and her commitment to heart and intention in her teaching resonated with everyone she encountered.
Michael Pina, a landscaper at the academy, noted that although he did not know Bobo personally, her influence was felt across the campus. He described the loss as deeply felt by the school community, particularly for the younger students she taught. “She’s a good person, it’s just sad to hear that she is not here no more. My condolences go out to her friends and family… it’s just sad,” he said.
A growing memorial of flowers and candles has been established outside E-Z’s Lounge to honor Bobo and the other victims. Caliber Beta Academy will be closed on Monday to allow students, staff, and families time to grieve and reflect on her life and contributions.
The police investigation into the shooting is ongoing. Authorities have detained several individuals in connection with the incident, though no arrests have been formally announced.
During this difficult time, our deepest condolences go out to the family, friends, and colleagues of Atetia Bobo. Her dedication, kindness, and the positive impact she had on her students and community will not be forgotten. The Caliber Beta Academy community, along with all who were touched by her life, will continue to honor her legacy and the meaningful contributions she made to education.
Atetia Bobo will be remembered with love, respect, and admiration. May she rest in peace.
